IMPORTANT NOTICE - 2010 HENLEY REGATTA
CANCELLED:
Due to
the rain experienced in January and February, the 2010 Regatta is
cancelled until further notice. To ensure the safety of participants, we
need to scout the river in the 4 weeks prior to the Regatta, in order to
establish the state of the river and to do any necessary cleanup of fallen
trees, etc. By the second week in March we still have not been able to
access the river to establish the state of the river, and to do the
necessary cleanup.
In the
interest of safety we have no option but to cancel the 2010
Regatta.

point of the Regatta, where we normally pull the rafts out of the
river.
17 FEB 2010 POSSIBLE POSTPONEMENT OF THE
REGATTA: We have been experiencing torrential rain and
storms since mid January here in Henley
on Klip. Henley Regatta protocol requires us to scout the river in the
4 weeks before the Regatta, in order to establish the state of the
river and to do any necessary cleanup of fallen trees, etc., to ensure
that the river is safe for the participants. For the last four weeks
we have not been able to launch a boat or barge onto the river
to establish the state of the river, and to do the necessary cleanup.
We had plans to go onto the river on Saturday 20 Feb 2010 to
start with cleanup operations, but after last night's downfall, is does
not look like we would be able to access the river in the next week
or so. With only 2 and a half weeks left before the planned date of the
Regatta on the 7th of March, time is running out, and we may have to
postpone the Regatta, as safety on the river remains our main
concern. A final decision will be made by the 25th Feb
2010. We will keep you updated on this web site as
soon as we have made a decision.
2010
REGATTA:
The annual Henley High and
Preparatory Regatta and Cricket Challenge was scheduled for 7 March,
postponed to 21 March, and in the end had to be cancelled due to the state
of the Klip River.
The
Regatta is always dependant on the level of the river at the time. The
safety of the participants is our number one priority, and due to
the recent floods, the Regatta has been
cancelled.
Please visit this web site regularly to get the
latest updates.
The day will begin bright and early at Fraser Park
where bacon and egg rolls will be available
and registration takes place. A procession of
rafts will be led through Henley to the launch site. Rafts
will be launched, likely amid a hail of eggs, and proceeded down
river to the scout hall where they will be retrieved.
The
cricket is a 20/20 format game between the Henley Cricket Club (HCC)
and the HHPS parents/scholars. Last year we saw a very tight
game and in the end HHPS walked away as the winners.
